Reinhardt Smit is the South African co-founder of Closing the Loop and is responsible for all the company’s operations in Africa. He has experience in working with the informal sector in the collection of electronic waste and in transporting this waste for responsible recycling. In addition to this, Smit is involved in discussions at a higher level to develop business models that facilitate the collection and sound recycling of electronic waste from developing countries. Together with the PREVENT Waste Alliance and the StEP Initiative, he worked on a discussion paper regarding the practical implementation of the Basel Convention PIC procedure, which was presented in Geneva in June 2022.
