Kimmo Tiilikainen has previously acted as a member of parliament for 16 years and also held several ministerial positions. Combining environment and the economy is one of his guidelines, key elements being sustainability and circular economy. Tiilikainen was one of the EU’s ministerial negotiators of the Paris Agreement and signed it on behalf of Finland in 2016. He was one of the facilitators in the negotiations on adaptation to climate change when the Paris Rule Book was finalised. As a minister of energy, he implemented the Finnish climate policy by promoting both renewable energy and a ban on the use of coal.
